Benton hall Golf Day

On the 17th of April some 76 players arrived at Benton Hall Golf Club in Essex to participate in the Hiscox Golf Day in aid of The Tom Bowdidge Foundation, hosted by Sara Hodges the Benton Hall Ladies Captain 2015. Sara had chosen TBF to be her charity of the year, for which we are very grateful to her.

The format for the day was stapleford scoring with each player's score counting towards the team total.
The weather was excellent albeit a little windy.
The day started with a bacon roll and coffee followed by an auction whereby teams could bid on their starting hole, as it was a shotgun start the prime positions would be the 1st and the 18th as teeing off on these holes ensured the shortest walk! The auction was well supported and resulted in over £1,000 towards the total straight away!
Each team had also purchased the dreaded "Yellow Ball" this is a ball which each team must try not to lose and the winners would be the team who had scored the most points with it. This is always a nerve wracking competition and usually results in the yellow ball being lost quite early on! In this instance only one yellow ball managed to make it back to the clubhouse!
After the briefing by Sara the teams headed off to their starting tees, some with longer walks than others! at 10am the rocket went off the signal the start of the day.
The day stayed dry and everybody seemed to enjoy themselves, even those whose shots went into the water/out of bounds/in bunkers......
At the end the players convened in the bar to share tales of their rounds! There was then a two course meal and a raffle, a huge thank you to all the
players who donated raffle prizes and to those that also donated auction lots too, special thanks must also go to Frank Kavanagh of Hiscox who kindly
re-donated the lot he had purchased at a previous TBF dinner of a flight in a WWI bi-plane which belongs to Robin Lucas of Lucas Fettes & Ptrs WWII.
After lively bidding this was purchased for the sum of £400 which was boosted when Frank offered to fly in the plane in his underpants!!!
An event which will be "covered" by the Foundation!!

The day raised a total of £3,500 which will go towards Sara's total for the year and will be handed to the Foundation at the end of her time as Ladies Captain.
Thanks go to;
Sara Hodges, Ladies Captain of Benton Hall and all her fellow members who gave up their time to ball spot and man the Halfway House.
Darren Williamson of Hiscox for kindly sponsoring the day.
All the players who took part in the day.
