The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) takes an overview of cancer’s complex ecosystems and communication networks whilst also drilling down deep into the scientific mechanisms that drive cancer development, growth and spread. In this way they can reveal the fundamental processes at work as cancers arise, change and evolve, and use this knowledge to outmanoeuvre cancer by opening up exciting new avenues for treatment.

But this scientific understanding on its own is not sufficient to defeat cancer, it is necessary to innovate at every stage from the laboratory bench through to discovering novel and personalised approaches to cancer treatment at the hospital bedside.

The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation are providing financial support so that Professor Janet Shipley, Dr Chris Milton and Dr Ewa Aladowicz can work on discovering new approaches to treating desmoplastic small round cell tumour (DSRCT).
