Lucy’s Story
Lucy is a 22-year-old female who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma in March 2023. She is currently having an intensive cycle of chemotherapy at UCLH. Lucy has recently finished a Psychology degree and has had to move back in with her parents after university as she needed their support following her cancer diagnosis. Lucy told us that she had friends in London who were supportive and who she saw regularly, but she has been spending more time at home and has become quite isolated after she started chemotherapy, in part due to the impact of treatment, but also due to losing confidence caused by physical changes and losing her eyebrows.
Lucy says she feels very self-conscious since chemotherapy, not so much after losing her hair but definitely after losing her eyebrows. Lucy has no source of income and is not financially stable due to the impact of cancer and treatment which has meant that she is unable to work and is living at home with her parents. She has applied for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) but there have been delays with DWP and she still hasn’t received anything from them. Lucy has requested support from us to get her eyebrows micro-bladed which she is confident will improve her confidence.
YOUR support allowed us to get her eyebrows done and restore some of her self-confidence. She now feels happier to meet up with friends and this has helped with her social isolation. Sometimes what may seem a small thing to us is a major problem to others.
