Volunteering

Why do we need volunteers…

Have you ever fancied doing something worthwhile but are not sure what?

Have you ever thought about volunteering but are not sure who for?

Have you ever wanted to make a real difference but are unsure how?

Then look no further – The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation NEEDS you!

We can help you give something back to young people in the community and make a significant difference to the lives of young cancer patients. Your actions however big or small will have an impact on someone’s life and their journey with cancer.

  • Volunteering is an opportunity to learn new skills and can boost employment prospects and your CV.
  • Volunteering can give you a greater sense of purpose and meaning in your life.
  • Volunteering enables you to play an active role in making young people aware of cancer in teenagers.
  • Volunteering can help boost your confidence.
  • Volunteering will allow you to meet and interact with new people, thus developing your interpersonal skills.
  • Volunteering will help us as a charity to work more effectively, raising much-needed funds.
  • Most importantly, volunteering is FUN!!!

Fundraising

It is really simple to fundraise for us.

Choose what you would like to do, who you would like to fundraise with, where your fundraising will take place and how challenging you want it to be.

We have got lots of fundraising ideas for you to help you get started. Whatever your likes, age or ability we think there should be something for everyone.

If you would like to find out more about any of the ideas here or need help and advice, please contact Nikki at TBF HQ.

Corporate Sponsorship

A recent survey of 1,100 people from the UK, reported that most consumers think businesses should support charities. When faced with a choice between two companies that offered products and services for the same price, 82% said their decision would be affected by whether a company engaged with charities and its local community.

At the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation we believe the relationship between the charity and the corporate partnership is very important. A perfect partnership will bring funding, support and increased visibility for the charity and for the sponsor it will bring brand building, good PR and the chance to ‘make a difference’ to the lives of teenagers and young adults with cancer.

Is your company, organisation or workplace looking for a charity to support? If so there are many ways you can help make a difference – here are just a few…..

  • Choose us as Charity of the Year
  • Become a long term charity partner
  • Make a one-off donation
  • Offer expertise
  • Provide staff to help out at events
  • Sponsor our events

Covid-19

Nobody could have guessed what was going to happen on March 16th when the country went into immediate lockdown due to the Coronavirus. Almost overnight there was a halt in income at a time when the grant applications started to flood in. SCOR were right there to offer their help and gave us £10,000 to help those who needed financial help urgently. Richard, Nikki and the trustees were astounded and so grateful.
But it doesn’t stop there. Following a virtual meeting with the charity committee and a discussion of our future plans, SCOR contacted the Foundation to announce they would be giving a further £20,000 over the next two months. Nat Lee, member of the RAISE charity committee said ‘the donation is to be used to maintain the Foundation’s funds and therefore its ability to support its ongoing funding commitments’. At a time of utter desperation for our beneficiaries

RSA

The RSA Insurance group is a multinational general insurance company headquartered in London. The Chelmsford branch voted for the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation to be their chosen charity for the year. We are thoroughly looking forward to working with them.

“RSA are thrilled to be in partnership with the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation. Toms Foundation was nominated by staff and ultimately won the popular vote by quite a margin. Our office is in Chelmsford with staff from across Essex including Colchester. There are staff who knew Tom and his family personally,  have children who knew Tom or have been directly affected by Teenage Cancer. Our aim is to support the foundation, promote awareness and raise as much money as possible this year! The BIG  fundraiser RSA are holding this year will be the Marathon Walk ‘Chelmsford to the Sea’ which starts at our Chelmsford Office and ends on Southend Pier the walk is approximately 26 miles and with over 20 staff attempting the walk we hope to get as much sponsorship as possible!”

Corporate Partnerships 2019

On January 1st 2019, the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation became the Charity Partner of SCOR for two years. There was some serious competition so we were delighted when the staff vote went in our favour. They saw our vision and wanted to make a serious difference to the Foundation and our beneficiaries.

Entering the workplace

In February SCOR hosted a workshop to help young people think about how they would enter the workplace after their cancer diagnosis. You can read more about the day here.

Fundraising

SCOR have held many fundraising events throughout the year and it started with a Bake Sale which Nikki, Richard and Nicci had a great deal of trouble judging. The company used this as an opportunity to present our first cheque of £5000. We took this opportunity of attending with our researcher Dr Ewa Aladowicz who talked about her work at the Institute of Cancer Research.

Over the year the wonderful staff from SCOR raised just under £13,000 – we were so thrilled. This allowed us to reach even more teenagers and young adults with cancer. They truly made a difference to the work of the Foundation.
