πŸ’™πŸ©· World Mental Health Day – 10th October πŸ©·πŸ’™

Cancer doesn’t just affect your body. It affects your mind, your confidence, your independence and your dreams for the future.

Imagine being 17, watching your friends head off to university, learning to drive, going to parties and making plans for their future… while you’re facing chemotherapy, hospital appointments and the uncertainty of what tomorrow might bring.

Imagine being 22, wanting nothing more than to get back to work, see your friends or simply feel like yourself again, but cancer has put your life on hold.

For teenagers and young adults with cancer, the emotional impact can be just as overwhelming as the physical challenges.

πŸ’” The isolation of long hospital stays.

πŸ’” The anxiety of scans, treatments and the fear of relapse.

πŸ’” The loss of confidence when treatment changes how you look and feel.

πŸ’” The frustration of losing your independence.

πŸ’” The worry of being a financial burden on your family.

At The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation, we know that supporting a young person through cancer means caring for their mental wellbeing too.

That’s why our support goes beyond the medical side of cancer.

πŸ’™ We help young people regain confidence and independence.

🩷 We fund activities, hobbies and experiences that bring moments of happiness during incredibly difficult times.

πŸ’™ We provide practical financial support, helping to ease the stress and anxiety that cancer places on families.

🩷 We help young people feel connected, valued and, most importantly, like young people again.

Because sometimes, something as simple as a new wig, a laptop to stay connected with friends, driving lessons or a much-needed break can make an enormous difference to someone’s mental wellbeing.

We can’t take away their cancer. But we can help take away some of the worries, loneliness and emotional burden that come with it.

This World Mental Health Day, we’re reminding everyone that mental health matters just as much as physical health, especially when you’re young and facing something as life-changing as cancer.

Every young person deserves more than just treatment. They deserve hope, happiness, dignity and the chance to keep living their life. πŸ’™πŸ©·
