Applying for a Grant

The Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation give financial grants to teenagers and young people who are living with cancer. It is difficult enough for a young person to cope with the news they have cancer without the situation being made worse with additional money worries. In many cases parents often must give up their jobs in order to care for their sick son or daughter; this coincides with higher outgoings and increased expenditure.

The grant can be used to help with travel costs, household expenses (not council tax), clothing, food costs when in hospital. We also fund specific items that help to make the patients cancer journey easier, less isolated or to help them continue with their studies.

In exceptional circumstances the Foundation will consider larger requests, but this will have to go before the board of trustees who will consider the application in detail.

Each application is considered carefully and, in some cases, will be shared with the board of trustees.

Our aim is to support as many teenagers and young adults as possible, so the amount applied for may not necessarily be granted.

Criteria

The grant applicant must be between the ages of 13 and 24 years.

They must have been undergoing treatment for cancer in the last 12 months.

All requests will be considered if it is shown to be beneficial to the young patient.

If the patient has previously received a grant from us, priority will be given to new applicants.

In general, we do not make a second grant within a year of receiving one.

The trustees of the Tom Bowdidge Youth Cancer Foundation reserve the right to make a grant for a proportion of the total applied for.

Each application will be dealt with in order of receipt and no preference will be given to any individual.
